Throughout my career I have sought to improve the businesses, in which I have been involved. Examples are; cost reductions through technical improvement; implementation of management systems to meet business needs, ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001; management development, through targeted training; budgetary responsibility; continual improvement, development of product and material specifications.
Firth Brown and Sheffield Forgemasters:- primary and secondary electric arc steelmaking, vacuum treatment and ingot casting for automotive, aerospace, defence, power generation and nuclear industries. The roles of shift manager, melting shop manager and technical manager.
Catton & Co. Ltd:- steel founders in the roles of process development manager and product manager, a combination of operational, technical and quality responsibilities.
At MSI Forks; part of the Forging Division of MS International PLC:- manufacturers of fork-arms for forklift trucks and forgings for the defence, oil, gas and power generation industries, as Technical Director. Areas of responsibility were operational, technical and quality. The business also created opportunities to take responsibility for; the project management and purchase of capital equipment; HR and recruitment policies

Collaborative project with The Welding Institute to determine the suitability of Friction Welding Processes in the manufacture of fork-arms.

Partial quench and temper process, using residual forging heat in the manufacture of fork-arms. Successfully incorporated into a lean manufacturing solution.
